A prison officer was expected to undergo surgery after he was stabbed by an inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Indiana, officials said. Joseph Turner, 32, was attacked Monday while he was working in the prison's maximum-security unit, prison spokesman Rich Larsen said in a news release. Turner suffered wounds to the hand, neck and back and was taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute, the release said. The wounds were not life-threatening, but the release said Turner was expected to have surgery to repair damage to his hand. A hospital phone operator said today that Turner was not listed as a patient there. The Associated Press left a message with a state Department of Correction spokeswoman seeking additional comment. Prison officials placed inmate Lincoln Love, 55, in segregation following the attack. Love, who is serving a life sentence on a murder charge, was identified as the prime suspect in the attack, but investigators at the prison said other inmates also may have been involved. Authorities did not identify any other suspects. |
