The union for state corrections officers voted down a new contract with the state. The vote on Monday comes after the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association and the governor’s office agreed to a tentative deal in late December. “The collective membership has spoken and chosen not to approve the tentative agreement with the State of New York,” said James Miller, communication specialist for the association, in an email to the Times. “The members have the power to reject any proposal the state offers and the majority have chosen not to approve the current offer.” The preliminary five-year deal agreed to in December included retroactive to the start of 2016, 2 percent pay increases each year, as well as changes to the health insurance program and disciplinary process.
