| Prison construction bill will be scaled back |

A bill that could change the face of the state’s prisons will return to the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday. It will likely leave in a less ambitious form. But Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, the bill’s sponsor, said last week he was still negotiating what stays. “What we’re trying to do with the substitute is bring something that as a general concept more and more people will come around to,” Ward said Thursday. “My goal is to make sure every single member of that chamber feels like they’re involved in the process, not shut out or run out.” Read More. |
