| Sheriff warns of scammers posing as police |

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be aware of scammers posing as officers to take their money. Residents have received calls from a person identifying themselves as “Sgt. Jackson, badge number 3319, of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office,” Lt. Denise Thornton said. The caller then informs the residents they have an active bench warrant and, while staying on the line with them, instructs them to purchase Green Dot MoneyPak cards, Thornton said. ADVERTISING The residents are told to purchase the Green Dot cards in specific amounts and to bring them to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office at 560 West Hanover Ave. in Morris Township. The caller stays on the line with the resident and when they arrive at the Sheriff’s Office parking lot, the caller asks them to provide the code on the card, which provides access to the money, Thornton said.
