The bill did not make it to a floor vote in either chamber. Miller says it's been smoother sailing this year. The bill passed through the House Public Safety Committee last week.

Miller says they changed language in the bill that gives the Minnesota Department of Corrections a little more leeway.

Senator Lang says there's a lot of misinformation regarding the reopening of PCF, especially among the state's labor unions who remain steadfast against the plan, even though it would mean hundreds of new union jobs in financially-struggling area of the state. Miller says the argument that PCF is too far from the state's main urban center is weakened by the fact that all our neighboring states also have prisons spread out and far from urban centers.
