| County begins transition to Department of Corrections |

Sarpy County is in the process of transferring administration of the Sarpy County Jail from the sheriff’s office to a new civilian Department of Corrections with a full-time civilian corrections director. No firm date has been set for when the approximately 40 sworn sheriff deputies who currently man the jail will be fully replaced by civilian corrections officers. Instead, the transition will take place gradually, over a period of at least four years, during which time deputies will be replaced with civilians as deputies retire or are transferred to other duties.
