GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Seven Marshall County inmates are facing property damage charges after authorities say they complained about their jail food.

News outlets report the seven inmates complained to jail staff about their meal Saturday. Sheriff Scott Walls says in a news release that the warden had an additional meal prepared, after which the inmates took the food trays and damaged a fire sprinkler system, kiosk and phone.

Walls says the sprinkler system damage caused flooding. Damage estimates are not complete. He says sheriff's deputies and Guntersville police responded to the jail and were able to stop restore control. One inmate injured himself and was treated and released from a hospital.
