| Department of Corrections developing new Pre-trial Division |

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) A new pre-trial division under the Department of Corrections aims to increase public safety and reduce unnecessary spending. The division is being created in part to meet Senate Bill 91 requirements, but those involved in its development said it's an addition that's been requested for more than 40 years. Under SB91, the DOC has until January of 2018 to implement the pretrial division. Geri Fox, pre-trial director for the state said the goal is to help individuals who are accused of crimes, but have yet to be convicted.
