Authorities were investigating the death last Saturday of a teenage inmate of the Alexander Youth Services Center in Saline County (Ark.). Lakeisha Brown, 17, of Osceola was taken to Southwest Regional Medical Center in Little Rock last Saturday morning after losing consciousness at the detention center, said her grandmother, Elizabeth Brown. She was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m. Lakeisha Brown was a ward of the state and had been held at the facility for about three years for behavior problems, her grandmother said. Julie Munsell, a spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Human Services, which oversees the center, said the department did not suspect foul play. The department has launched a "thorough" investigation, Munsell said. The teenager's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy, mandatory in the death of a correctional inmate, said Garland Camper, chief deputy coroner of Pulaski County. |
