An Arapahoe, Nebraska, airport official says he is not guilty of charges in a strange federal case, which alleges that he didn’t disclose key information to authorities about a woman’s plan to break an inmate out of the Furnas County Jail and abduct the county sheriff along with a judge from Tennessee. Anthony Todd Weverka, 54, was charged with misprision of a felony after the indictment was unsealed and FBI agents took Weverka into custody Monday. He appeared before U.S. District Judge Cheryl Zwart in Lincoln on Tuesday and entered a not guilty plea. Weverka was released following the hearing. The indictment said Weverka learned of a plot to take Sheriff Kurt Kapperman but didn’t disclose that information to law enforcement officials. He spoke repeatedly with the woman behind the plot and gave her the sheriff’s home address, according to the indictment announced Monday in a press release by acting U.S. Attorney Robert C. Stuart.
