| Homicide sentencing postponed for former CCI inmate |

A man accused of killing his cellmate in Columbia Correctional Institution is back on a trial schedule after changing his mind before a plea and sentencing hearing Tuesday. Dexter Ewing, 44, is accused of killing his 40-year-old cellmate, Jerome Scott, in February 2015. According to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office detectives, a CCI officer reported Ewing approaching her in the day room on the afternoon of Feb. 13, telling her that his cellmate was on the floor and there was blood everywhere. She told detectives that with Ewing accompanying her, she went up the stairs to the cell, where Scott was face down on the ground and unresponsive. Ewing was transferred out of CCI to Waupun Correctional Institution and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Read More. |
