WSP raises the flag for Corrections Week

RAWLINS — It’s a resplendent spring day in Wyoming, and the sun shines bright above the Wyoming State Penitentiary as administrators and staff gather out in front of the facility to watch the colors rise and ring in the beginning of national Corrections Professionals’ Week.

It began with a prayer from the Pen’s chaplain, a prayer for all Wyoming Department of Corrections employees, all those who are in custody, a prayer for the victims of crime, for the families of prisoners and for probation officers and volunteers. Afterwards, Warden Michael Pacheco read aloud the proclamation issued by Gov. Matt Mead pertaining to corrections week, which will be signed May 10.

“The Department of Corrections provides for the safety of Wyoming families and individuals,” Pacheco read.
