| MDOC: Senate's budget could mean lay offs at Woodland facility |

The state Senate’s proposed budget for the Department of Corrections could mean layoffs at the Woodland Correctional Facility Center in Livingston County, a spokesman said. Spokesman Chris Gautz said the Senate’s plan – approved 33 to 4 on Thursday – appropriates $1.974 billion to MDOC and includes a “$1.3 million cut to Woodland Correctional, where the most severely mentally ill prisoners” are housed. “It would force us to lay off a dozen individuals who work at that facility where there’s already 28 vacancies,” Gautz said. “We have concerns about safety. … We see this as a poor decision.” Read More. |
