The Kansas Department of Corrections says it will be transferring inmate mental health services from Larned to El Dorado. The services have been offered at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, as well as the El Dorado Correctional Facility. The services will be consolidated at the El Dorado facility. In a press release, the corrections department said the increasing number of inmates needing mental health services has outgrown the available space in Larned. Combining the two service units at El Dorado will provide more efficient services, and there will be an additional 50 to 60 beds for the behavioral health program. The Larned facility will transition this summer into a program for offenders between the ages of 18 and 25, to provide education and vocational training to help them prepare to reenter society. The new program will have a 300-bed unit for young adult male offenders who have needs for educational or substance abuse services. Barton Community College will work with the corrections department on this new program. Read More. |
