| Deputy, inmates hurt in crash |

Thursday night, a Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Sheriff's deputy and two inmates were hurt after a three car wreck. Investigators say a tractor trailer hit the van from behind on Interstate 85 in Gastonia at the US 321 exit. Police say during rush hour traffic backs up on the exit and onto the interstate. The tractor trailer could not stop quickly enough and hit the sheriff's deputy's van. The collision forced the van to hit another vehicle. The deputy and two inmates were hurt, and sent to the hospital. Officer Michael Thomas says he investigates an average of two accidents in the area each week. |
