Inmate who led prison sewage cleanup says he now has Hepatitis C

The inmate who led the cleanup of massive sewage spills at a Jackson-area prison in January says he was given almost no protective gear and has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C since his release.

The Corrections Department denies that Glen Lilly was not provided with a mask and other protective gear. But Lilly's claims echo those made earlier by a prison employee.

Lilly's job in Parnall Correctional Facility's 9 Block was prison plumber. Lilly told the Free Press a basement area got flooded with raw sewage three times in the space of about a week because on each occasion officials told him to open and vent a cleanout valve to relieve pressure that was causing shower areas and toilets to back up with sewage.
