| Violence increasing among a segment of prison population |

Tecumseh State Correctional Institution, one of the state's three maximum-security prisons, has developed a reputation for violence over the past couple of years. The Mother's Day riot in 2015 caused extensive damage and left two inmates dead. Then a disturbance in March caused more damage from fires and two more inmates were killed. More recently, a 22-year-old inmate was strangled and killed by his cellmate, who has been charged with first-degree murder. Department of Correctional Services Director Scott Frakes has said that over the past year or more violence among a segment of Nebraska's prison population has escalated. Read More. |
