AUBURN, N.Y. - A state prisoner repeatedly practiced using a homemade coffin hidden under tons of sawdust to escape from Auburn Correctional Facility two years ago. Gordon "Woody" Mower, a Richfield Springs man who murdered his parents, says he and another inmate hatched a plan they practiced 50 times. They made dry runs right under the noses of the guards for a year, Mower said. The plan involved designing and building a wooden "life-support capsule" -- a kind of coffin with no bottom, Mower told Syracuse.com in an interview at Elmira state prison. Read More. |
