| Strafford County jail finds three inmates overdosed, administer Narcan |

DOVER — Three inmates at Strafford County House of Corrections had to be revived with Narcan Tuesday. Sheriff David Dubois said after the morning head count, staff noticed unusual activity that prompted them to look into what four inmates were doing. When they realized three of them were likely overdosing on opioids, they administered Narcan and called emergency rescue crews about 8:25 a.m. Corrections officials across the state have scrambled to deal with overdoses as the drug epidemic has spiked. In the last year. at least two inmates in Manchester have died from overdoses — one at the Valley Street jail and another at the Calumet halfway house. The Department of Corrections implemented emergency rules barring inmates from kissing or hugging visitors to prevent the transfer of drugs. Lawmakers gave final approval last week to setting up guidelines for the use of full body scanners to detect drugs at jails. Read More. |
