Moving from a total of 607 inmates in 2016, which was 157 more than its maximum capacity, to 525 prisoners as of June 2017, the Bordelais Correctional Facility is still overcrowded. The penal institution was built to safely accommodate 450 prisoners and while there was a decrease of 82 inmates over the last year, it is still over its maximum capacity by 75 inmates. Currently, more than half of the prison population are on remand – a total of 273 males.
