| Larned prison adopts new mission preparing young offenders for reentry |

LARNED — At the end of May, the Kansas Department of Corrections announced that the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility will be converted to a medium-security prison this summer and the nearly 150 mental health inmates there will be moved to the El Dorado Correctional Facility. Changes were outlined in a May 23 letter from Todd Fertig, KDOC communication director. The letter is on Tuesday’s agenda for the Barton Community College Board of Trustees’ study session, because the college provides classes at the Larned facility.
