| Walton, Escambia work to resolve inmate issues |

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia County Commission have made significant progress in recent days to resolve a sticky inmate issue. Recently, the Sheriff’s Office agreed to extend its contract to house some 300 Escambia County inmates past June 30. That will allow delegations from both counties time to resolve differences that in late May spurred Walton Sheriff Michael Adkinson to declare the contract, in place since 2014, kaput. In a May 26 letter to Escambia commissioners, Adkinson stated, “I feel I have no other option than to exercise our right to terminate our agreement” as of June 30. Read More. |
