A 29-year-old man with apparent medical problems died during a basketball game inside the Fort Bend County (Texas) Jail April 8. A preliminary autopsy indicated Curtis Dan Bishop of Richmond died of a heart attack, said Jeannie Gage, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office. "He had scarring on the heart and blocked arteries," said Gage, citing the autopsy report. Gage said at about 6:55 p.m. Bishop was playing basketball in the jail when he had a seizure and collapsed on the court. "The inmate received prompt medical attention and was transported by ambulance to the OakBend Medical Center where medical personnel pronounced him dead," said Gage. She said Bishop had been in the county jail since March 3, when he was arrested on warrants on charges of delivery of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone. Gage said Bishop's death remains under investigation. |
