Former inmate becomes drug counselor |

FAIRBANKS — When Kelvin Lee tells Fairbanks Correctional Center inmates that “you can’t undo your history, you can only use it,” he speaks from experience. Today, Lee is a certified drug counselor, a Baptist deacon and the director of the JP Jones Community Development Center in South Fairbanks. In the past two years, Lee’s nonprofit organizations No Limits Inc. has opened two affordable housing facilities in Fairbanks, including one geared specifically toward people recently released from jail. But like the people he serves, Lee’s criminal history will always affect the way potential employers and other people in society treat him. Before ending his most recent jail stint in 2003, Lee spent most of his youth hooked on crack cocaine, going in and out of various Alaska jails. Read More. |
