| Gouverneur inmate charged with assault of guard |

GOUVERNEUR — State police on Wednesday charged Terrence R. Haynes, 37, an inmate at the Gouverneur Correctional Facility, with felony second-degree assault. Troopers charge that in February in the dorm of the prison, Mr. Haynes punched a 27-year-old corrections officer in the face, causing him to fall to the floor. The officer struggled with Mr. Haynes, who continued to assault him until he was able to reach his emergency response button to call for help, at which time Mr. Haynes stopped his assault, troopers said.
