| Jobs help reduce recidivism |

About 95 percent of prisoners in South Carolina will one day rejoin society. Unfortunately, almost a quarter of those released will end up back behind bars within three years, according to the most recent data from the state Department of Corrections (SCDC). That’s lower than the rate in a lot of states, and down from recidivism rates a decade ago, but further reducing that number would mean saving taxpayers money, improving public safety and helping more people live free, productive lives.
