JACKSON, MI - A corrections deputy told an investigator that she had repeatedly checked on Rene Russell the night Russell hanged herself with a jail bed sheet. At least five times in the two hours before Russell died, and once in the final 30 minutes, as Deputy Patricia Stallworth went about her duties, she noted Russell was sitting on her bed in an isolation cell. Stallworth took about 20 minutes to pass out medications, arrived at Russell's isolation cell and immediately noticed the hanging sheet, states a police report compiled by now-retired Jackson Police Detective Gary Schuette.
