| Bristol County awarded $100K in opioid treatment for exiting inmates |

DARTMOUTH — Opioid-addicted inmates on their way out of jail will have a new program that offers pre- and post-release treatment and recovery services soon, according to the Department of Public Health. In a release Monday, the Baker-Polito administration announced $500,000 to be distributed evenly to five county house of corrections facilities across the Commonwealth — including Bristol County. “Funding from the Department of Public Health will provide important substance misuse treatment services to a rehabilitating population that we know is significantly more susceptible to the opioid epidemic upon their release,” Gov. Charlie Baker said in a statement. Data from the administration’s Chapter 55 report says those in jail with a history of opioid use are 56 times more common to die from an overdose following their release than those from the general public.
