| Inmate death under investigation in Jefferson County |

JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a prisoner who was given CPR at the jail and died at a hospital. The Sheriff's Office says Beaumont Police brought the 38-year-old man to the jail at about 3:25 a.m. He was charged with Public Intoxication. The inmate had been medically cleared at a local hospital prior to his arrival at the Correctional Facility, according to the Sheriff's Office. He had a Mental Health Hold placed on him. While checking on the inmate, a Correctional Officer discovered he was lying on the floor and appeared to be in distress. Medical staff at the Correctional Facility were immediately notified and quickly began CPR, said the Sheriff's Office. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he died at about 3:40 p.m. A judge has ordered an autopsy. Read More. |
