LEONARDTOWN — A Kent County man charged with rape in Queen Anne’s County allegedly tried to escape Monday night, Aug. 6, from his pretrial custody at St. Mary’s jail, where a hole 3 feet in diameter was discovered in a bathroom ceiling. Jeffrey Ronald Kindle “stated he does not know why he destroyed the ceiling,” according to charging papers, adding that he “stated he located a small hole in the ceiling, … (and) used his hands and a metal drain cover from the shower to expand the hole.” No inmates have successfully broken out of the detention center, which opened in 1989. “All they do is damage,” Capt. Deborah Diedrich, the facility’s acting commander, said Tuesday. “They can’t get anywhere. There’s no way out. It’s all (enclosed by) solid concrete.” Read More. |
