DOC vows to close Warren County Jail if bond vote isn’t set

The Iowa Department of Corrections will begin the process of closing the Warren County Jail on Jan. 31 if a bond referendum for money to replace it isn't scheduled by then, according to a pair letters recently obtained by the Indianola Record-Herald.

"The entire facility smells of mold and sewer gas," said one letter signed by Iowa State Sheriffs' and Deputies' Association president, Maj. John Godar.

That letter references a June 22 association tour of the jail, which is on the third floor of the Warren County Courthouse in the middle of The Square in Indianola.
