Death of Jefferson County Jail inmate a mystery

BROOKVILLE — The death of a Jefferson County Jail inmate remains under investigation but, beyond that, little is known about the death of David Aikens.

Aikens died in July while he was returning to the Jefferson County Jail. Aikens was walking from Humphrey Charcoal on Route 322 in Pine Creek Township to the county jail which is also located in the same township along Route 28.

On Feb. 15, 2017, Aikens was sentenced in the Court of Common Pleas in Brookville, to possession of child pornography. He was to pay the costs of prosecution, a fine, and to serve a sentence in the Jefferson County Jail of from nine months to two years, less one day, followed by three years plus one day of probation.
