Freedom may be a long way off for 29 current and former Rikers Island inmates indicted for several brutal assaults inside the city jail complex. The beatdowns targeted inmates and correction officers, and the suspects are members of the Bloods, Trinitarians, MS-13 and Folk Nation Gangs, prosecutors said Wednesday. In one incident, six men attacked an inmate on Oct. 20, cutting him so badly he needed more than 100 sutures on his face, arms and hands, prosecutors said. Read More. |
