| Marietta no longer paying Washington County to jail inmates |

MARIETTA — For more than three decades the city of Marietta has paid Washington County to house offenders who have been arrested by city police at the county jail. But that practice, which in 2016 cost the city $60 a day, plus any required medical expenses for each inmate, has come to an end. In 2016, Marietta paid the county $41,750 to house city inmates under a contract with Washington County. “We are no longer in a contract with the county for housing our prisoners,” Marietta Police Chief Rodney Hupp said on Tuesday.
