The Claiborne County (Tenn.) sheriff has fired three jailers after a former inmate claimed she was beaten by other inmates and ignored by the jail staff.
Jessica Kincaid claims the attack against her in the Claiborne County Jail lasted for two hours.
She says she was dragged out of her bunk by six other female inmates who kicked her, spit on her and punched her.
Nearly 18 hours after the incident, Kincaid was taken to the hospital in New Tazwell where she was in intensive care. Then she was transferred to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Her attorney says a lawsuit is likely.
The jail can house up to 46 inmates, including nine women. The six women charged with aggravated abuse for beating Kincaid are now locked down 23-hours a day. Each woman has a $100,000 bond.
Over the weekend, the Claiborne County Sheriff Harry Shultz wouldn't give details but said, "What happened shouldn't have happened. We are taking measures to prevent this in the future."
