| Louisiana Department of Corrections seek improvements for work release program |

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - In order to stop inmates from escaping their job sites, a plan is underway. "We are considering increasing the number of times the employers make site visits where these offenders are actually working," said Seth Smith, from the Louisiana Department of Correction. "We are having the employers sign [a document] that says these visitations did in fact occur and make sure that they understand their responsibilities." After multiple reports of Alvin Dixon escaping from his work duties and accused for killing his longtime girlfriend, many fear that this is a reoccurring problem. However, according to Smith that is not true. "We're approximately 50 percent lower than we were last year as of July 2016," said Smith. "We had 48 [inmates] escape from transitional work programs. At the end of July this year [we're] down to 24; so we're moving at the right direction and we want to continue that." Read More. |
