An inmate injured when he tried to escape jail two weeks ago has been charged with helping another inmate escape. Juan Estrella, 29, was charged last Tuesday in Hall County (Neb.) Court in connection with the escape of Luis E. Morquecho, 31. Estrella, who was in Hall County Jail awaiting sentencing for a sexual assault, was charged last Tuesday with kidnapping, aiding and abetting an escape, attempted escape and assault by a confined person. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 4. Bail was set at $500,000. Officials said Estrella and Morquecho overpowered a female corrections officer during the escape. Hall Count Sheriff Jerry Watson said that Morquecho escaped when he climbed a two-story wall in the jail's recreation yard. Estrella tried to follow but fell and injured his leg, Watson said. Morquecho, of Woodside, N.Y., was in jail on a kidnapping charge. Officials think he may have headed east toward New York. As of last Tuesday, he was still missing, the Hall County Sheriff's office said. |
