ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — Escambia County is looking for ways to ease overcrowding at the county jail. The Pensacola Neighborhood Justice Program is set to go into effect this week. Members of the group said their plan will help confront jail problems by getting the release of those who otherwise would be sitting behind bars. It could also cut the cost to the county. "Today our population is approximately 993 at the jail, additionally we have close to 220 of individuals at the jail housed in Walton County. We have approximately 300 at our work release and we have approximately 70 out at the road prison," said Tamyra Jarvis, Escambia County Director of Corrections. Read More. |
