MALONE — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to lower the cost of medical services for inmates by helping them maintain outside insurance during their incarceration. Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill met with county legislators on Thursday to discuss a possible local law allowing the county to use an inmate’s insurance for medical costs. The state Legislature first passed a law allowing counties to do so in 1992, amending the New York State Correction Law. The sheriff first approached the county board with the possibility in 2011.
