Inmate bitten by pit bull at Albion Correctional Facility

ALBION — A female inmate was bitten and a corrections officer exposed to blood after a pit bull attacked another dog at Albion Correctional Facility, according to the state corrections officers union.

The prison had just initiated a new canine program to help shelter dogs with poor socialization skills, New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association officials said in a news release. Participating inmates are responsible for helping the animals adjust, so they can be adopted.

The pit bull was one of two dogs at the facility, NYSCOPBA officials said. A snow fence was being used to keep them contained.
