Inmates set a small fire, flooded toilets and smashed a television to protest searches at the Jefferson County (Ind.) Jail. No one was injured. The disturbance began late Tuesday, Sheriff Bill Andrews said. He has revoked television, telephone, commissary and visitor privileges indefinitely. "Once in a while you've got to remind these people who's in charge here," Andrews said Wednesday. Two men believed to be the ringleaders might face criminal charges, he said. At the time, the jail housed 63 inmates, 13 over normal capacity. "They damaged their TV back around Christmas, and I didn't let them have it back until about Super Bowl weekend," Andrews said. "Now, I don't know how they're going to watch TV." |
