Inmate dies in Nash County jail

An in­mate at the Nash County De­ten­tion Cen­ter died Tues­day night of a mas­sive heart at­tack, the Nash County Sher­iff’s Of­fice re­ported.

De­ten­tion of­fi­cers no­ticed that in­mate An­thony Jones, 42, was suf­fer­ing a med­i­cal emer­gency at about 10:33 p.m. Tues­day in the de­ten­tion cen­ter, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. De­ten­tion of­fi­cers im­me­di­ately re­quested as­sis­tance from Nash County Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices and be­gan pro­vid­ing life­sav­ing mea­sures, Chief Deputy Bran­don Me­d­ina said.

Th­ese emer­gency mea­sures con­tin­ued un­til the ar­rival of Nash County Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices per­son­nel. At that time, Jones was trans­ported to Nash UNC Health Care, where he was pro­nounced dead. Med­i­cal per­son­nel in­di­cated that the in­mate had ap­par­ently suf­fered a mas­sive heart at­tack.
