| Multiple Inmate Deaths Being Investigated As Suicides |

Georgia Department of Corrections officials are not commenting on three deaths in state prisons in the past week. They’re investigating two of those deaths as possible suicides. Federal statistics show between 2001 and 2013, suicide was the cause in 4 percent of inmate deaths in Georgia prisons, which was lower than the national rate of 6 percent. Sara Totonchi, the executive director with the Southern Center for Human Rights, said suicide in prison isn’t specific to smaller jails. Read More. |
