MARTINSVILLE – A trustee who escaped from a work detail Sept. 13 was apprehended Wednesday in the Villa Heights area. The arrest came as a result of an active investigation/manhunt by the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, Martinsville Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the U. S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Dekey Trevor Penn, 33, was charged with escaping custody, according to officers with the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office and Martinsville Police Department. Penn worked as a trustee on the back of a garbage truck. The group was collecting garbage on the west side of Martinsville when Penn jumped from the truck around Fayette Street, at the former Paradise Inn. He removed his cap and orange vest behind the former Paradise and walked away. Read More. |
