In today's South Dakota Department of Corrections meeting, the commission discussed lowering the amount of adult female offenders in Pennington County. The Department says they're still negotiating a contract with the service providers for the Justice Reinvestment Grant they received last year. The goal of this 1 point 75 million dollar grant is to create a program to help divert Pennington County female offenders from re-entering prison. The department's cabinet secretary says Pennington County has the highest number of female prisoners than any other county in South Dakota. Read More. |
