MASON – An Ingham County Jail inmate who died in September overdosed on a mixture of drugs that including methadone and cocaine, officials said, and they’re charging a former fellow inmate with providing one of the drugs that killed him.

Mark Rhodus, 39, of Monroe, was found dead inside his jail cell about 4:30 a.m. Sept. 12, said Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Rhodus had prescriptions for two of the drugs found in his system, officlals said. But he should not have had access to methadone, cocaine and buproprion, a generic form of Wellbutrin, which also were in his system, they said.

Investigators learned that another man had been the only inmate in that area of the jail who was prescribed methadone the night of Rhodus' death, Wriggelsworth said. Methadone is commonly used to treat opioid addiction.
