Three West Virginia corrections officers were suspended after an inmate was mistakenly freed from jail wearing another inmate's wristband, officials said April 22. Allen Baird, 28, was released April 21 after another inmate at Western Regional Jail in Barboursville who was scheduled to be released gave him his identification wristband, said Steve Canterbury, executive director of the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority. The other inmate, Broc Whitfield, waited for more than an hour before demanding his own release. Whitfield was charged with destruction of property and aiding and abetting escape. Baird remained on the run as of late April 22. |
