Nation's Longest Serving Corrections Director to Retire

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — The longest serving corrections director in the U.S. has decided it's time to retire from his post in Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Department of Corrections Director A.T. Wall says his last day on the job will be Jan. 30, after three decades in public service and 17 years as head of the state's prison system.

WPRI-TV reports that the 64-year-old Wall said his decision was sparked by Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo's retirement-incentive program that offers eligible state workers up to $40,000 to retire.
