ERJ among state correctional facilities working to combat new drug scheme

MARTINSBURG–West Virginia correctional facilities, aided by the legal community, are working to combat a scheme for smuggling drugs to inmates.

That scheme is faking or compromising mail from their lawyers, according to a press release from the state’s department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.

Lawrence Messina, the department’s director of communications, confirmed that Eastern Regional Jail has intercepted drugs hidden in legal mail.
