Five prison officer who worked security details at last summer's Democratic National Convention have been disciplined for drinking on the bus ride home, state corrections officials said.
Correction Commissioner Kathleen Dennehy's office said the officers admitted drinking on the bus after the last day of the convention on July 30.
Three of the officers who worked at the maximum security Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley were suspended from their jobs for three days. The other two, who worked at state prisons in Gardner and Shirley, were suspended for two days. All five were taken off the Correction Department's SWAT team.
Steven Kenneway, president of the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union, is not challenging the punishment because the officers admitted drinking, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reported last Wednesday.
The officers were part of a 125-member tactical team that helped provide security at the convention in July 2004. The team also included Boston and state police, the Secret Service and other agencies.
